Firewall Question

Postby frak » Fri Aug 05, 2005 7:54 pm

I was just wondering what the views of the forum would be regarding the setting up of a home network.

I currently have a D-Link DSL-604GT router that I am only using for wired networking. What I want to know is whether or not I am better off using the inbuilt firewall or having a dedicated machine for the task. I plan to have two pc's and eventually a laptop on the network as well as a ps2 and xbox.

Many thanks...

You mean 'iptable' ... yes configure iptables. What ever technique you use ... whatever sw you use, it will basically just be fronting for iptables.

The router has iptables already setup so why wouldn't you use that?
to quote from their website:

# Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass-through support
