Xtreme vector graphics

Postby guy » Sun Dec 04, 2005 12:14 pm

Xara X has for many years been one of the PC vector graphics world's best-kept secrets. It is faster and easier to use than the big names, thorougly mature and at least as cutting-edge in its professional features. It includes specialised paint (bitmap) and web graphics tools. (It's one of my few remaining Windows killer apps).

It has just been updated to Xara Xtreme, and Xara have announced plans to GPL it and bring it to Linux and Mac:

So they'd like a lttle help, if anybody feels like doing some porting work:

Sure we have one or two other vector apps brewing, but nothing in the same league as Xara - and none can boast the solid decade-and-more's experience of coding and supporting professional vector graphics tools that Xara is bringing to us.

I really think this is a great opportunity to fill one of the major gaps in the FOSS/Linux application line-up with a world-beater.

Xara say that they simply do not have the cash to market themselves against the likes of Adobe and Corel. Going open source is the business model they have chosen to make the future happen for them. IMHO they deserve our support.

P.S. No I'm not on their payroll. I haven't even scraped together the cash to upgrade my PC to Xtreme yet.
