The sig between the asterisks is so cool that only REALLY COOL people can even see it!

Just pick up a new HP box yesterday and of course secure boot is on so no joy installing Mint 18 on the 3Tb drive I bought at the store and mentioned my intent to install Linux  In my option they broke the sales agreement. That and a crippled BIOS has me steamed at bit at least till I hack around it

Enjoy the Choice :)

It's extremely unlikely that Secure Boot is forced on on a desktop machine, but that doesn't mean that you won't have to jump through all manner of awkwardly positioned hoops to turn it off again. Holding shift while clicking the shutdown menu should give you some extra options. Best of luck!

Sorted posting from fresh Mint 18.0 now to populate it with all my favoured tool :D
There was a BIOS update that the hp support app found :) then fairly easy to disable secure boot and enable legacy support,Hp asks for a 4 digit confirmation number to change the BIOS.

Enjoy the Choice :)

You shouldn't need to enable legacy support. Mint is quite capable of booting with UEFI without messing around with MBRs and DOS partition tables.
