Streaming from hard drive to phone

Postby heiowge » Sun Mar 23, 2014 4:59 pm

Does anyone know if it's possible, and more importantly, easy to stream video off my hard drive to my phone over wifi?

I've got a ton of things to watch that I've moved onto my hard drive on my PC. What I want to know is, can I share them with my Android phone and use it to watch them? My laptop is bust, so the only computer downstairs is my phone. Setting up the world's most bizarre periscope and baked-bean-can phone speaker system seems a tad less efficient than asking here for help.

Phone is Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and file format is mostly xvid (avi).

Install a DLNA server, like MiniDNLA or MediaTomb, on your computer and use a DLNA compliant player on the phone. I use Bubble UPnP for that, I used it last night to watch a recording from MythTV on my Nexus 7 while the missus was hogging the TV.
