I suppose the file system is up to you to choose, I use ext4, but I think btrfs is supposed to work fine with SSDs.
For mount options, I use noatime, discard and I've also moved some of the sections of the filesystem off to tmpfs to avoid unnecessary writes:
- Code: Select all
#tmpfs modifications for SSD
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0
tmpfs /var/spool tmpfs defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0
tmpfs /var/tmp tmpfs defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0
I have found putting an SSD into a laptop disappointing on one machine. It seems, from what I have read, that the SATA bus is underclocked to reduce power consumption on some models (especially cheaper ones with smaller batteries).
However, on my desktop machine, boot to log-in is about 7 seconds and things like LibreOffice open in a trice.
