First experience of computers was a digital CNC machining centre and the only semiconductors it had were transistors and diodes. The control cabinets (6 of them I think) were 3 feet wide, 6 feet tall, and about 1 to 1.5 feet deep. Programmes were loaded by punched paper tape.
