Linux CD simply will not boot on my laptop...

Postby tomjefferson » Fri Jun 03, 2011 3:43 am

This is very frustrating. I downloaded the latest distros of the following: Suse, Debian, Ubuntu, Slackware and Fedora.

Ubuntu has an installer and the install hangs with a message pointing to the install log which claims no iso was found. The others are boot discs and simply do not boot. Message says "can't boot" and then windows starts up...

Laptop is a 6 year old Fujitsu Lifebook N3511. Are there any hardware issues I need to/can resolve before Linux, in any form, will boot?

A few years ago there was a problem with some BIOS that meant they could not boot Linux; check if there is a firmware upgrade for your BIOS.

This might sound like a daft question, and I apologise if it seems a tad patronising but... You did "burn image" and not "burn data disc", didn't you...?
