Keyboard

Not directly Linux related but ...... I do a lot of typing and was wondering if people think that investing in a 'decent' keyboard would be a good investment and, if so, if anyone had any suggestions? Most of the reviews of keyboards (well, mechanical ones at least) seem to emphasise the gaming aspect which isn't what I would be using it for.

Good point. It's just that there seem so many to choose from.

I bought one last year and I love it.

Typing is very much a personal thing; by far the best keyboard I have ever used was the Amstrad CPC6128+ keyboard. You could glide across the keys hardly touching them; my typing speed shot up when using it.

But people always complained that I used the lightest tension on my mechanical typewriter and they had to make the touch heavier to use it.

So, if possible, try out any keyboard you are likely to spend a lot of money on for an extended period before purchasing. What suits your touch may not suit another person's.

Otherwise just get used to the fact that most modern keyboards aren't designed for professional typing.

I clicked the link and found myself looking at a picture of the keyboard right in front of me now. I had not realised that they were still made. I have about six of them, salvaged from the skip at work on an occasion in 1995 when we all got new PCs. I was amazed that my fellow workers just let them to go - on the assumption that newer must be better I suppose. How wrong that can be. Or perhaps they just had no taste.

Best ever made with no argument. The one I have here has been hammered for 20 years and will last for ever, with an annual key cleaning (they all come off and go in a washing bowl). Even so my 5 spares are not for sale.

Only to other people, and they mainly get annoyed because you have one and they don't.

I, too, have to recommend the Model M. I bought one about four years ago after having enough of the spongy rubbish that masquerades as keyboards these days.

Not cheap, especially when you get clobbered with VAT and import duty - you have to order them from the US of A.

I suppose you could try and get an "original" on EBay but, if you are a serious computer user, getting the best keyboard that you can is an investment in your health and well-being as much as looking cool on your desk.

The best choice would be the OCN ducky. I got about 12 wpm hike after I go up with OCN ducky.
