failure in booting from dvd--Mint 15

Postby etheutin » Wed Nov 27, 2013 5:45 pm

I can't boot from the dvd that came with an earlier copy of Linux Format. I am trying to boot Mint 15. I am using a Lenovo Ideapad U310 Touch. It has Windows installed, but I want Mint as my OS. The instructions on the disc are to reboot from the dvd, but I can't seem to do that. Is Windows blocking me? How can I boot from the dvd I got from the mag? TIA for all help.

I am assuming that you have got into the bios and enabled booting from the dvd?? to do that you use the Novo key to enter the bios and then you have to set the boot devices, from the pdf I downloaded:
Code: Select all
„ BIOS setup utility
What is BIOS setup utility?
The BIOS setup utility is ROM-based software. It communicates basic
computer information and provides options for setting boot devices,
security, hardware mode, and other preferences.
How can I start the BIOS setup utility?
To start the BIOS setup utility:
1 Shut down the computer.
2 Press the Novo button and then select BIOS Setup.
How can I change the boot mode?
There are two boot modes: UEFI and Legacy. To change the boot mode,
start the BIOS setup utility and set boot mode to UEFI or Legacy support
on the boot menu.
39Chapter 6. Troubleshooting
When do I need to change the boot mode?
The default boot mode for your computer is the UEFI mode. If you need to
install legacy Windows operating system (operating system before
Windows 8) on your computer, you must change the boot mode to Legacy
support. The legacy Windows operating system cannot be installed if you
don't change the boot mode.
I presume that you will then be able to set to boot from the DVD
still looking for that door into summer
