Rescatux fails on Dell with Intel Pentium 4

Postby fredbradford » Wed Jan 30, 2013 10:02 pm

Rescatux (LXF166 - Jan 2013 - DVD) fails on load with error:

"This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 cpu.
Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU."

I have a DELL Optiplex GX280 that has an Intel Pentium 4.
The computer was originally installed with Windows-XP Professional.
Ununtu 10.04 LTS runs with no problems on this computer with no special drivers required.
I'm trying to recover a hard drive with Fortran (yeah-yeah!!) Fortran code.

Looks like you only have a 32 bit CPU in that machine. Your trying to install a 64 bit distro.

lubuntu LXDE 13.10 running on AMD Phenom II*4; ASUS Crosshair III Formula MB; 4 GB Ram.....

There are seperate menu entries for 64 bit and 32 bit kernels, make sure you use the right one. The Rescatux on LXFDVD209 has a slightly different menu that only shows the 64 bit options if it detects a 64 bit CPU, so this problem should not occur with that disc.
