It depends of the banana species you are about to eat.
Most common bananas (Known as Cambures or Cuyacos in Venezuela) should be a very strong yellow with black spots (but not too many of them)
For the Big "Male" Bananas (plátano) they should be green for tostones (deep fried with a bit of garlic) Very dark brown to be oven baked with a hint of sugar or black for sweet fry them (tajadas).
There are many viarieties and forms to eat each of them. :wink:

There are some lovely little bananas from the grenadines that have black skins, I think their called custard apples, they have a lovely sweet honey taste and mixed with other Caribbean fruit make a fabulous breakfast along with a wee tot of rum brandy 8)

Custard apples are these which you can sometimes get in the bigger supermarkets.

I've occasionally seen almost black looking ones as well but usually marked as "plantain" - see the Caribbean section of the cookbook for some good recipes.

As for the best way to eat 'em, they've got to have slight brown speckles on the skin (in other words ripe), but then mashed into a sarnie. Yum Yum!

Erm green bannanas are ripe and yellow are overripe(source = national geographic)

I used to go to school with a lad who had mashed Banana sarnines with tomato ketchup on - YUK

As an addicted foodie, I will eat most things, but i draw the line at Parsnips, bananas, and raw horsemeat.

Anyway, shouldn't this be in the OT forum?

Individually, altthough the thought of them in combination is the stuff of nightmares.

And before anyone asks, yes I have tasted them all ( but not in combination)
And found them all disgusting. (although cooked horse is quite nice, but needs careful cooking or it is quite tough.)

Other candidates for the most disgusting food ever include Brine-pickled clams, Kyoshi and Marmite.

(and no, I don't know what Kyoshi is exactly, except it apparently contained preserved plums and some sort of dried salted fish)

Lutefisk. Has to be the most disgusting thing I've ever tried to eat. Closely followed by whale liver (ordered in a restaurant due to me mistranslating the menu :()
