You probably missed it, but Lenny has been declared the new Stable:
http://www.debian.org/ With the Etch release only 22 months back, it's a fast one!
Unfortunately, I tried Lenny earlier this year and found it had some pre-set defaults I really don't like. I'll stick to Etch for a while.... |

I didn't miss, it was on the outstanding Tuxradar site you might have heard about. 
I am currently testing the 64-bit version in VMWare.
