Will we be spared the overhaul that is currently afflicting the PCAnswers forums and is lined up to sweep across other Future websites? _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

Well we've had this iteration of the forum since April 2005, management might think that a bit old _________________ still looking for that door into summer |

Are all of Future's forums on the same servers? Will LXF have to stop using open source software - PostNuke - and pay for proprietary forum software?
Doesn't make sense does it? |

| This is the point where all conspiracy theorists freak out when they see who's holding the fort while Hudzilla is on sabbatical - see Team Blog. |

Nope, nothing will change here, and the LXF site is hosted on its own, dedicated server. No need for any conspiracy theories

Glad to hear it. I knew that the LXF site had it's own server (not only because you've mentioned it before, but when the rest of Future's forums are inaccessible, the LXF forums aren't, and vice versa), but it's good to know we'll be spared any unnecessary changes.
I wouldn't even venture a conspiracy hypothesis, let alone a theory. _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

Funnily enough I tried to create an account on the PCAnswers site earlier today (before I had read this thread). "Instructions will be sent to your e-mail address", I was informed. I'm still waiting!! |

Well I e-mailed Scott Ewart and he kindly sorted the account registration for me. He said in his reply: "After the DNS change to the new server, some spam filters are flagging up the registration emails (as the server is so new), once we’re indexed correctly, this problem will be solved."
I have to say the comments on the forum, both as regards the new look magazine and the website, make depressing reading. Subscriptions being cancelled left, right and centre. Will that Nick something or other have a magazine left to edit, I wonder. |

Yep, Scott is busy working on fixing the spam-flagging problem. Regarding the forum comments, there are naturally some glum faces when a mag changes. It's sad to see people go, but hopefully the new design and video tutorials will bring lots of new readers too! The PCA team have worked really, really hard on the new mag, so I hope it goes well and the current readers adapt to the changes.

Blame Rhakios, he started this.
But to answer your question, yes strictly speaking PC Answers is 98% Windows but it does include articles about Linux (or used to, I've not read the latest issue which is causing all the fuss), with our own Graham Morrison as a contributor. I enjoy discussing computers generally so do have a tendency on this site to stray away from the penguin occasionally. Sorry about that. |

Actually, we are discussing Future magazine websites, of which the PCA site is one. The LXF site is another.

It's still a bit of navel gazing for the future people and who cares about some windows rag _________________ still looking for that door into summer |

If you don't gaze into your navel from time to time, you'll never remember to remove the unsightly fluff. _________________ Bye, Rhakios |
