Hi im about to go out and buy a wifi setup but... i just wanted to make sure that D-Link DWL-G520+ is able to run under linux with out too much hassle

You might be able to get it working with NdisWrapper:

Go to the first link to discover which version of the wireless card you have. Then go to the second link for the list of possible linux drivers.
I've got the D-Link DWG 650 and Ubuntu picked it right up! I should change my handle to UbuntuRulz as much as I preach it, but the wireless on Ubuntu just works! Of course, it's probably the updated kernel that has the drivers already installed and not so much Ubuntu, but Ubuntu had it first, and it makes me happy! Very Happy
