cdrecord gentoo 2005.0

Postby gch15 » Thu Jun 09, 2005 4:15 pm

Installed Gentoo 2005.0 from LXF 68 DVD. Took me three nights (I have a dayjob) to get to X (Gnome). It is a wonderful experience. I installed cdrutils to get cdrecord which is what I used to use when I was running FC3. On Gentoo cdrecord -scanbus says something about not liking 2.6 kernels and does not see my CD writer. FC3 was also running a 2.6 kernel but I believe they had a patched cdrecord.

Anyway, is there some way of writing CDs while running 2.6 in Gentoo 2005.0 or do I have to downgrade to 2.4. I would hate doing that considering that I have got all my other hardware (Scanjet 5300c and Laserjet 1200) working in Gentoo 2005.0.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This has just come up on the Gentoo mailing list. cdrecord DOES work with Gentoo and a 2.6 kernel, or you wouldn't have got the cover disc in the first place :)

The message is only a warning, and a very old one at that.

Try cdrecord dev=ATAPI -scanbus, although I just use standard Linux device naming, e.g. cdrecord dev=/dev/hdc blah...

Thanks for the quick response. I will try it out this weekend and see how it goes.
