Hi all,
I want to find out an answer for the following question:
which IDE is the best for C++ coding in Linux?
I tried to use xEmacs, nedit but I want to find IDE which will combine powerfull possibilites for editing and ease for using

Depends on what GUI toolkit you want to use (if any). Kdevelop has decent integration for QT's RAD tools and I think Ajunta has decent integration for GTK. So really its a case of horses for courses. Code completion is quite good with Kdevelop and it uses KATE as its editor (it used to have an embedded VIM element as an alternative but they had removed it last time I checked).

Well, it is a good idea, I've seen signatures like these but none of them made sence neither did this but I like them Smile

I can see that, he doesn't use CAPITAL LETTERS, he wrote "thankyou" instead of "thank you" but he is kind of uselul :-/ (I think)

Some Thoughts:

I recently stumbled on 'eclipse' which appears to be designed to provide a front end for what ever tools a person might chose to plug into it.

I can't quite tell at the moment as the documentation fonts are about the size of tiny little black ants and the xml that renders them has no config options available from the gui.

But, looking through my magnifying glass they seem quite extensive and to the point. I could just make out mentions of both c++ and java.

I just recently repacked the package(s) from a very buggy knoppix 5.0.1 LiveCD and haven't had a chance to look at it properly, or visit the site. So i hope i'm not to wrong in my impression so far.

But an my initial look was quite promising, every thing else appeared configurable, including the scheme fonts ... menus/editors etc. Just the help/doc facility seemed locked out.

As it was a binary, the flexibility of the gui configuration impressed me. And as the gui documentation/help system, being extensive, is likely a set of xml files, i figure it would just be a matter of looking for where therev'e got them screwed down and doing an edit.

If it is what i seem to think it is at the moment, i can see my self using that package.

On Another Tack:

For a nice smooth designer, The Full Tick (FLTK) might be worth a look.

As smooth as cbuilders' designer. Needs to work with other tools though, editors/compiler etc, as it's just a designer, not an integrated environment. It's configured in a novel way too. Graphically via a set of 'projects' in the 'fluid' directory that hangs off the top level src directory.

Hi all,
Thanks for your answers. The thing is that I'm going remove windows from my computer at all (clapping;) and i wanna find all programs I need to have. At the moment i'm using nedit, but it's not enough for rather big projects. Maybe kDevelop will be my choice
