Are there actually people daft enough to spend $499 on a 1.5.metre cable?
Of course, the answer is 'yes'. There must be more mugs in the hi-fi world than just about any other. I've never forgotten when I had a passing interest in hi-fi many years ago, I read an excited letter in a magazine from a nutter who assured us with absolute certainty that he had significantly improved the sound of his audio system by removing the plastic caps from his phono plugs.

It's not only the expensive products that get the interesting reviews, even the humble Bic comes in for a fair share.
Edit: and by all means look up the "three wolf moon t-shirt", complete with video review.
