Suse 10.0 install problems

Postby pyro092 » Thu Jan 05, 2006 4:40 pm

As a first go at Linux I tried to install the Suse coverdisk. In all modes (including safe) the install will just hang at some stage, this seems to vary every time, though I can occasionally get to the initial setup I have never got as far as actually installing the first disk.
I have verified the CD, and even downloaded a fresh copy of OpenSuse 10.0, to no avail.
My system is rather elderly, 333MHz, AMD K6-2, 128MB, 6 GB HD, nothing else unusual. Is this computer up to the task or should I look elsewhere for a Linux setup? The whole reason I looked at Linux was to keep this old computer alive.

Any advice appreciated,
Thanks

I just finished installing SUSE 10.0 from the LXF74 DVD on a P3 550 MHz,284MB ram,60G hdd.Everything was OK.

Just might be that a different distro is in order, try a LiveCD like Damn Small Linux it will practically
run on a matchbox and if you like it you can install to the hdd.

Damn Small Linux(DSL=50MB of Penguin Power).
