Mandriva 2006

Has anyone tried Mandriva 2006 on the cover DVD/CD yet? I have the previous version and I wonder if it is worth upgrading?

it seems to be a mixed bag. some people say its worth it while the majority seem to say that its very buggy. apparently, there's a bug in kde whereby the user can't reboot, or shut down.
mandriva has always been one of my favourrites, so i dare say that i will be trying it out for myslef, despite what i've heard.

It should be better now that a lot of the bugs found on release have fixes available. You might even find that kat works acceptably if you have very few files in your home directory and only add them one at a time ;) (otherwise uninstall it).

Hi firefox,

I tried Mandriva 2006 (Free Edition), but I was very disappointed. Think you have to be a Club member, if you want to use it proberly and that is quite expensive.

Hi Firefox,

I took the plunge with Mandriva 2006 (Free edition) on my new Dell yesterday. I had one problem with the installation, where the make but not the model of the graphics card was not recognised. This didn't take very long to sort out. However I have a very suspicious problem now where I am able to browse web sites from Konqueror, but not Firefox. I have not spent much time on this yet ....

If it's just firefox, try deltaflyers answer in this thread.

Worth the upgrade, a lot of difference, though disappointed that it isnt 'bleeding edge' anymore so had to move to Suse to get KDE 3.5....roll on Mandriva 2007!!!

The next club release should have KDE3.5, but I'm not holding my breath

With all due respect, the solution was originally posted here by deltaflyer, I merely read, retain an um, err... regurgitate

Rhakios,

OK, thanks to both deltaflyers and yourself for pointing me in the right direction. It's easy with hindsight to see how your solution solved my problem. I don't think that I would have put this solution to solve my problem, not in the short term anyway. It was the intermittent way that Firefox didn't work that 'foxed' me.

Thanks again
Martin
