I have a few old *.ppp files (Serif I think) that I would like to open.
So far I have found little on tinternet that points the way. Am I wasting my time looking, or does some kind person know the secret???

Not tried it with Page Plus but, if the text is in ASCII, Kate will often open a file and you can extract the text - but not the images of course.

From the command line:
Code:
strings -a --encoding={b,l} -n 2 <filename>

may work if there is any ASCII text in them.

Thank you both.
I think it is a lost cause. I shall just give them the "coup de grāce".

When I was faced with a similar problem some years ago, I got Windows 98 up and running in a virtual machine, installed a print to pdf app and exported all my old, otherwise unreadable files to pdf.

Thank you for that Rhakios.
That's a cunning plan deserving at least 10/10.
However I discarded all my old M$ CDs about 3 years ago, when we moved, and I feel I would rather loose my ppps than use any M$ stuff again (even 98, which, compared to it's successors, was a litle pussycat).
