Have you tried setting the sound IN Skype?

S Button(Bottom Left)>Options>Sound Devices

You may need to experiment with the drop-down settings for "Microphone"

I've had issues with Skype sound, but on Fedora. I managed to get it working by using alsamixer, a CLI tool that allows you to fiddle with settings for each sound card individually.

I think the issue is with the Gnome sound settings applet, it doesn't seem to attach the displayed volume controls/sliders to a different sound card when selected under the 'hardware' tab.

The problem was solved by setting right mic channel to silence in pulse audio mixer & setting let skype control mixer to off (untick it)
Thanks for all your help
