seldom-used asus laptop, 8 months old, the reading of linux disks is uneven re: wireless adapters, wanting to use in live mode. Re: disks that show wireless networks, with most disks unable to successfully connect to network, doesn't matter whether it is secure or unsecure network, have most success w/ linuxmint, least with all ubuntu variants except communtu, was able to connect w/ knoppix 6.4.4 conventional cd, unsuccessful w/ 6.7 and 7.0(both ecodisks), any ideas?
Thanks

Thats pretty much why they abandoned the ecodisks a long time ago.
I suggest emailing the customer service people and asking nicely if they have any left. Other than that, they might have copies they can burn to discs or online copies they can point you at links for. _________________ AMD PHENOM II X6, 14 GB DDR3, 500 GB hd, 1GB nVidia card, running Linux Mint 14 KDE / Win 7. Hey,
Sorry to hear you're having problems.
We haven't used ecodisks for quite a while, so it's possible your wireless problems aren't related to the disc but hardware support in the older distributions.
If you have access to a good broadband connection, you could try the latest Ubuntu (12.04 - available from http://ubuntu.com) or Fedora (17 - http://fedoraproject.org).
If you can't do that, send me an email (jonathan.roberts@futurenet.com) with your address and I'll try and send a more recent copy of the magazine with no ecodisk and a more recent distribution.
Good luck,
Jon |

hello-thanks for the response but the problem is more widespread than i originally stated. I am having the same problem w/ Sabayon 8 in that i am getting the authentication/wireless connection failed msg, trying the Live approach as well. Any ideas?
Thanks

I know you're using the LiveCD, the issue could be that the driver files needed for the wireless connection or not included.
Connect to a wired connection and see if there are drivers available for your wifi connection. _________________

| If such drivers exist and i download them, where could i download them and maintain the live cd approach? |

Most live CDs allow the use of a USB stick or the hard drive as persistent storage. _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |
