Have tried installing Cinnamon from the recommended repository on openSUSE 12.1. However the panel is not shown, although the desktop icons and background are displayed. There are no error messages.

Gnome Shell works O.K. on the same machine.

Any suggestions? It seems I'm not the only one with this issue—a search returns details of other instances of the problem, but no solutions.
