Ah yes that ole comparsion is back! So the VoIP wars have started with Skype apparently having the lions share of the market. While Gizmo stands on its soap box shouting we have better audio.
Skype has loads of handsets out there (check ebay if you don't believe me) and Gizmo, well google for an interesting result.
The network manager at my work place heaps praises on Gizmo yet he agrees that skype has the large user base.
Gizmo is only built for a few distros and even then I've seen its a pain to install. I never had a problem with Skype when I tried on SUSE 8.0 many moons ago.
Who then will claim the VoIP crown? Or will they merge?

Betamax was better, but VHS had better marketing.

Aren't Skype phones just USB phone that'll work with any VoIP software? Skype will win simply because eBay is behind it and the might of eBay and US marketing will surely overcome. Ask the layman in the street, which have you heard of, VoIP or eBay...

Hey this is starting to sound very similar. Marketing might, poor quality product (well audio anyway) and any chance there might be an employee called Gates (even a cleaner will do)! :0

Unlike Betamax/VHS/Video 2000 (Remember the Philips one that was best of the three and first to fall?), interoperability is possible for VoIP systems.

IMHO all the major telcos will soon be offering VoIP. Skype and Giz may grow big, may struggle and sell out, may buy up a big player in a reverse takeover, who cares. Crossover stuff, to call one VoIP system from another, will be taken for granted. Probably in a few years, the only landline handset you will be able to get will be an ADSL/VoIP thingy.

betamax was actually no better than VHS ( I was a betamx owner), it just gets that kudos because it was eclipsed

Personally, I always thought Kitekat was better than Whiskas.

I recall Betamax being distinctly ahead of the original VHS - it wasn't difficult! VHS has evolved over the years - it's nearly as good as Video 2000 now.

And GNOME is better that KDE, so there!

don't bite, don't bite...ah what the heck... gnome sucks unless you are using Ubuntu.... Smile

And even then it lacks the finer features of KDE:P
