I have just put together a new pc with a pentium G630, 4gig ram on a Foxconn H61MXV board and an addon NWP200EV2 wireless card. I installed Linux mint 12 64bit which works great except the wireless card keeps dropping the connection. It is not a faulty with the card or motherboard as I have also installed Windows xp to dual boot.
I am thinking of installing a different distro to see if I can cure the problem, this is not ideal as I like mint.
Anyone had a similar problem? |

| I uninstalled network-manager and installed wicd which at the moment seams to have cured the problem. Now usb speakers have stopped working. I had this before and can't remember how I fixed it. |

| With regard the usb speakers, I switched to Gnome 3 from KDE and the sound works. logging out and back into KDE and the speakers sound with the KDe loading sound but won't work in any programme or with web browsers. |

Just added xfce desktop, speakers work perfectly under this nut still not in KDE.
Might install a different distro and try KDe under that, any suggestions for a KDE distro for this pc? |

I was experimenting with different video cards, see posts in hardware, and when I purchased a new Nvidia GT430 I took the opportunity of exchanging the wireless card, I got a Tp-link TL-1WN881ND which works every time in windows and linux. It costs £19.99 as oppose £12.98 for the addon card, but the extra cost is worth it.
Overall I now have a good budget system for trying out different distros, although at the moment I am liking Mint 12 as it does everything I need this system to do. Every bit of hardware has been identified correctly with drivers available for the Nvidia graphics card and the wireless card.
All I need to do now is find some benchmarking software to see how this performs against my main machines. |
