Anybody mind if I get in my time machine and KILL the inventor of flash?
(Mr FBI: I don't actually plan to kill anyone, but I feel like it. As for the presence of a time machine, I will neither deny nor confirm its existence) _________________ For certain you have to be lost to find the places that can't be found. Elseways, everyone would know where it was |

Uninstall any flash-related garbage (except for those dealing with flash-cards ) and presto: no more annoyances I've done so years ago and haven't looked back. (actually, I did try it once or twice, only to be so appalled I quickly purged it from my machine again )
Ah yes, I hear you say, but what about u-tube? Well, if you need that flashy crap to get attention to your stuff, it's most likely not worth my time anyway
Just me tuppens, lad |

| You can kill the inventor but you better come out with one that is better or else I won't be able to view my favorite YouTube. |

Though YouTube is not my favoured location. _________________ CAF4926 |

Ok I'll go forward in time, grab the spec for the finished HTML5, a couple of good browsers, then back and kill the inventor and release HTML 5 on the world really early on. _________________ For certain you have to be lost to find the places that can't be found. Can't most YouTube videos be watched in their HTML5/WebM versions now?
I don't have anything against Flash as a format -- it gave us a level of interaction in web-based games and programs way before HTML5/Canvas etc. was good enough, and originally it loaded miles quicker than Java applets.
But the plugin is totally crap, utterly crash-ridden and hilariously broken. It baffles me as to why Adobe don't make it fast and reliable -- it's such a big part of their future. Hopefully it'll die in the next couple of years though.

I think so but youtube is refusing to use html5 (might be my browser)
but the annoying thing is that it (+others, bbc, etc) is saying i need to install flash! I have and it was working fine a week ago and is fine on my other computers. I tried installing it from the adobe website and its like 'abode-flashplugin is a virtual package' NOT HELPFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ For certain you have to be lost to find the places that can't be found. Same as the Nokia problem, I expect, too many software engineers, too many "managers", too much institutional inertia, no real motivation. _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

hmmm...just had a little déjà vu. I swear I wrote in a thread something like this when Flash was back at version 7 and left Linux behind updating to 8. All the sites scrambled to update their players which broke lots of sites for the Linux community. _________________ I codes here: http://notsure.tk |
