You need to upload your avatar to another site (e.g. a photo site such as flickr or photobucket), then use the URL for that image as your avatar.
If you look right click on someone elses avatar and do view image then you'll be able to see where everyone else keeps their avatars. _________________ I have been touched by his noodly appendage. |

There in lays the problem. I do have a Flickr page, I go to the avatar pic I want and past the URL in the alloted space, but it keeps coming back that the URL is not valid. Suggestions? _________________ Don't join dangerous cults: Practice safe sects! |

Some of them have [img] tags and some just start http://... I can't remember which this site needs, but I'd say try both and see if that solves your problem.
for example:
Sorry for the screenshot here. If I do it any other way, it tried to create images out of my text!
Please excuse the cursor on the second address. It's not a | symbol. |

Thanks for your help, but I'm resigned to not having my Avatar, as I've now tried both your suggestions, been to pages and seen what others have done with their avatar, and can't figure out what the heck is going on as every try has this:
The URL of the remote avatar is not valid
Cheers

Negate that last message, as I tried something else, went to my Facebook page and right clicked and went 'Copy Image Location' and it worked...yes! Thanks for your kind help. |

Well done, now you just need to resize it to the 60x60 size limit for this site. _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

I've just realised my avatar has exceded the max and it has done so for about 6 months now. Do I need to resize as well? |

Even worse -- I need to permaban you! Very sporting to point that out though. Cheers!
Really, I'd say 100x100 is the absolute limit. So you're just about OK

Damn, stuff it, f... it, I've now downsized it, and now matter what I do, that damn "The URL of the remote avatar is not valid" keeps coming up, no matter what [img] or whatever is put in front of and behind it.
Can anyone who knows how, tell me the secret to having this nighmare end in a happy ending, as I've never struck this problem on any other website, forum, Blog or Wiki in my life on the internet..... _________________ Don't join dangerous cults: Practice safe sects! |

Paste the exact URL you're trying to use here so we can look into it.
