Blue ray? Schmoo ray! Who needs to spend all that money on high-res equipment when it has been demonstrated that for the cost of a bit of paper and some printer ink you can easily improve your TV picture, linky.

Hi Rhakios...
Great pointer, no one has yet explained to me how to get
around varifocal glasses with eyes that have different
strengths.
Plus, no one has told me why I NEED HD of anything.
So frankly the placebo test just shows the power of
suggestion...
Look into my eyes.......................

You don't, you don't need TV at all. But if you enjoy watching HD more, it's nice that the choice is there. _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |

| Isn't HD intended to solve the problem of even larger screens? Given the number of lines is fixed, the larger the screen the less clear the image is - or have I missed something? |

Trouble is, the really large HD screens are effectively at a poorer resolution than small SD ones (lower ppi)
There are only so many dots, and despite some clever electronics, the picture isn't really that much better.
SD on my 22" syncmaster is fine, but SD on a 42" screen is pretty poor.
The best solution to SD on a huge screen is to sit further away, but that sort of defeats the object really. _________________ The sig between the asterisks is so cool that only REALLY COOL people can even see it!

Are you trying to say, that you don't believe that the chief exec's of all the hardware manufacturing companies aren't really hard done by ? that they haven't suffered in the current economic climate?
I mean, haven't you see the queues outside the mens section in M&S in Oxford Street, yet you'll find tumbleweed blowing aimlessly down Saville Row......
They need your help, so that they don't have to move into 7 or 8 Bed detached (only in 2 or 3 hectares) in the Home counties. They'll have to sell their mansions in the Cotswolds and look what would happen to the neighbourhoods then, you'd be able to pick up a country estate for a pittance and with the devaluation of "premium" property, Jeremy Clarkson might end up living near you
So keep buying the HD stuff, it gives the burglars something to do......... _________________ "What the large print giveth, the small print taketh away". Tom Waits |

The problem with "HD" is it ain't necessarily as HD as you'd think.
The compression used means the effective resolution, due to the extent of compression artefacts, is quite a bit lower than suggested (720p / 1080p).
Quite comical that Sky TV are pushing Sky News HD for the election. I find Brown's facial contortions and Cameron's shiny face bad enough in SD.
And as for having to see Herr Diktator Lord Mandelweasel of Twatspanner in HD.......... _________________ Bomb #20: "Let there be light" |
