honestly it would be better if you went to http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
and downloaded the version there, then unpack it and double click on the firefox-installer icon. This worked for me, obviously as I am using Firefox to post this
Ha! </smugness> Personally, I was quite happy just doing
- Code: Select all
# emerge mozilla-firefox
then sitting back and letting the system "do it's thing" while I indulged in a couple of games of GNUBG!
As I didn't select any particular mirror when I set my gentoo install up, I don't know where they've got the e-build script pointing, it could be at mozilla's site or they may have mirrored it elsewhere!
But you've still got to watch out for a few curious things with the distro supplies version(s) i.e. when I had mandriva 2005LE installed, "they" had applied all the various patches, security and otherwise, but the version number still said 1.0.2 - I didn't bother looking to find out why they might have done it like that.
And also, on the occassion that I tried to get the code from mozillas site, it all installed OK, but I had to ponce around a bit to get it into the kde menu. The mandrake version had had no problems doing that.
Hence I still say that the thread originator should get it from their distro repository.
Saves a lot of hassle!
p.s. Oh and yes, I'm posting this with it!
