How can you say that when it's featured assembler-coded OS is KolibriOS and not MikeOS? I think you should give the journalist responsible a good slapping. On YouTube.
IMHO a worse sin was to miss out RISC OS, a native ARM OS which has been around for ages, and a free version RISC OS Open is now nearing completion. Amiga? Atari? Ptui! Archimedes was the biz.

I did consider RISC OS when writing that article, but because I originally wrote it for PC Plus, I wanted to focus on x86 OSes that folks could try on their own machines.
That said, I am fond of RISC OS. I have an A7000 and I'd love to see some RISC OS netbooks/smartbooks with the next wave of low-power ARM chips.
Since Drobe closed, however, the RISC OS community does seem very quiet...

You mean because VirtualAcorn is non-free (in both senses) and RISC OS Open does not have a usable download yet?

Sadly unlikely and unwise this time round. RISC OS was not designed with networking in mind, and I gather that it is horribly insecure by modern standards. Also, the code base of applications and hardware drivers is pretty ancient. The RISC OS Open master plan aims to liberate our beloved British OS to attract the wider FLOSS community and boost just this sort of development.

There seems little to talk about until ROOL (maintainers of RISC OS Open) can complete their patient liberation of the code. It is a tricky exercise, because it is so easy to fall foul of IP rights claimed by the various historical prima donnas of the RISC OS world. But hey, if anybody out there wants to get into ARM coding on a desktop-oriented OS with a different way of doing things, ROOL would love to hear from you. Or, outside of the OS itself, check out riscos.info.

Still, I can remember 3dview and xcruise which might also be interesting to use the same way. Don't know if they are still actively developed though, as I haven't heard anything about them for years.
