Hi all,
Just a quick question. I want to use my own avatar on the site.
I've uploaded it Flickr. Resized it to 60x60. Its a huuuuge 2k. so it should be well
within the requirements. However whenever I try to use it. Nowt happens.
Where am I going wrong?
Whenever I choose the "Link to off-site avatar" box on my profile page it
doesn't work.
I've tried using the url in the window at the top of firefox. & I've also tried to right
click on the image and chosen the "copy image location" on the menu, all to no
avail.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
Cheers |

| Your problem is not this site, it's Flickr. Flickr exists by virtue of advertising alongside the images you've submitted. Flickr embeds the image in their webpage, to such an extend you can't re-use it w/o the accompanied ads. To get around this, forget all those 'free' imagedumps and upload it to your own webspace. |

I use ImageShack to host my avatar.

Free, and doesn't seem to be any problem with it that I've noticed. _________________ Bomb #20: "Let there be light" |

I had a similar experience with Yahoo! Avatars - the URL provided by avatars.yahoo.com didn't work.
I got around it as follows:
1 copy the URL from avatars.yahoo.com (using export, choose small jpg)
2 paste the URL into my browser's address bar and submit it
3 get the URL of the displayed image from the browser's address box (this isn't the same as the URL submitted in 2)
4 paste the URL retrieved in 3 to the box on this site's profile page - but don't submit it yet!
5 delete the suffix after '.jpg' (in my case the suffix was '?.intl=us')
6 submit it.
Cheers,
Peter |

Ok, Ive joined photobucket (the account is literally 5 mins old at the moment)
Ive uploaded a pic (that is allowable by LXF). Ive tried every one of the links from my image.
And everytime I enter it into the Link box on my LXF profile it keeps saying
"The URL of the remote avatar is not valid"
So what am I doing wrong?
Thanks again for any help. |

Assuming that it won't reveal anything private (obscure it if it does), post your URL here so that we can check it out for the kinds of deformities that we might have experienced.

Whey!
It seems to have worked. I havn't done anything different.
I logged back in to photobucket today. Used the "Direct Link" option.
And it seems to have worked.
(I'm guessing that I just needed to give photobucket 24hrs to "officially" create my account?).
Anyway. Thanks to everyone who responded.
Cheers. |

Ah but can you talk like a Scot or a Londoner or even a Welshman? Trained actors make a stab at all these or even foreign languages, although only the bravest(dumbest) try that;-)
