Get rid of the stupid flash thing for a start
I can't be arsed to look through if you can't even design a website that works without being Internet Exploder like
I smile a little at | Quote: | | <meta name="keywords" content="vixta, vixta.org, vista open source, vixta, vixta.org, vista open source" /> | and | Quote: | <p id="player11"><b style="padding: 20px; font-size:12px; font-weight: bold;"><font color="#000000">Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player.</font><a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"><font color="#0000FF">
Get the latest flash player. </font></a></b></p> | in the source code of the webpage _________________ still looking for that door into summer |

1) It's gigantic. On my 8MB line here, it took about 30 seconds to load. As towy71 says, cut the Flash (a lot of Linux users don't like it), and make the page much simpler.
2) Include some sort of statement on the front page as to what it does! I had to go onto SourceForge to find out the description.
3) Making Yet Another Linux Distro That Looks Like Windows is a bad idea. In nearly a decade of Linux I've seen countless distros like this, and they simply don't work. Not only will Microsoft get onto you for ripping off their design, but it's a really bad move.
The more you make a Linux distro look like Windows, the more that users will be disappointed and confused when things don't work as expected. I don't use Gnome, but I respect the way it strives for a mostly unique look and feel -- giving an identity to Linux on the desktop.
Apple realises this too: create your own desktop, your own experience, so that you don't look like a cheap knock-off of the leader. When newcomers sit down with a Mac, they see that it looks very different to Windows, and must work differently too. Giving people a Linux distro that looks Windows-ish will just confuse them when they stray beyond Firefox and OOo.

Agree with others.. lose the flash! took me over a minute to load the front page. Reminded me of waiting for screen refresh on a 9600 modem line (oops showing my age!) Seriously.. don't they say that 50% of users lose interest if a page takes over 30secs to load?
Sorry didn't dig that deep, got fed up with waiting for the flash to load |

I recall seeing a review on linux.com, which is subtly self-contradictory:
| Quote: |
Vixta is a new Linux distribution, first released only last month, based on the not-yet-released Fedora 8. Its main objective is to emulate the visual aspects of Microsoft Vista.
|
and
| Quote: |
Too bad the goals don't include feature-complete and stable.
|
Seems to me that they have achieved more than the emulation of the visual aspects of Vista.
I now await the criticism of all those who don't approve of my sarcasm. _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

I approve of the sarcasm.
If i wanted something that looked a bit like Vista I would check KDE-Look first, rather than installing a new distro.
If i wanted something that looked exactly like Vista, I would buy Vista (just like I bought the Amiga CD32 and the Sega Saturn).
It's probably not the feedback you wanted, but had you considered making this a distro-agnostic "widget HOWTO with downloadable theme"? _________________ This signature has been produced using traditional writing methods on behalf of The Campaign For Real Slogans.

I got 3 CD32s for free, but I did buy an SX-1 pack. _________________ "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." (Albert Einstein) |

It took me right to the sourceforge site.
Yep, looks like Windows. Stop it. Stop it right now. As Mike said it is a BAD idea. We do not need another distro, we need people working to improve the ones we have. _________________ I cannot deny anything that I did not say. |

Also, it occured to me that if one wanted to attract Windows converts worried about upgrading to Vista, wouldn't it be better to make it look like XP, which they are accustomed to? _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

It's nice to see that the OP has taken no notice of the objection to the stupid flash stuff

That is a great idea. A DOS themed distro. _________________ This signature has been produced using traditional writing methods on behalf of The Campaign For Real Slogans.

I dunno ... I can see a use for it:
Got an annoying colleague at Work, who uses Vista?
1) Wait till they go to lunch
2) Back up their data for them (obviously)
3) Install Vixta
4) Restore their data
5) Sit back and enjoy _________________ Oontz <-- Click Here |
