I've enabled comment posting on the front page news stories, with a few tweaks to (hopefully!) avoid them being swamped in spam...

Is there any reason why the number of comments showing for a topic on the main page doesn't match the number of comments when you click through to read the comments?
I thought it might be due to some sort of auto-moderation, but I'm not sure.

We had a spam-bomb about a week ago -- I deleted all the comments from the database in one fell-swoop, but that still leaves the comment counters intact on the news page, annoyingly! At some point I'll try to correct 'em.

Thanks Mike. It's not too much of a problem, I just thought it a bit odd.
Also, I couldn't bear the thought of missing out on any pearls of wisdom posted by my fellow LXF aficionados.

Who's being sarcastic, towy? Mind you, the lowest form of wiit, might be a different thing to the lowest form of wit
Incidentally, while we are on the subject, sarcasm isn't the lowest form of wit: repeating the sayings of others, because one has nothing original or even remotely clever to say for oneself, is the lowest form of wit and had Oscar Wilde lived long enough, I am sure he would have come to appreciate the fact.

I guess there must be something similar to the above still going on.
As the comments were at zero but again don't reflect the existing count. There's 3 missing on the FSF post.
