what has happened to it, no one seems to know it anymore, tonight in a chatroom a person was typing in ALL CAPS and i asked her nicely to turn it off.. and and i was bascially told where to go,
this is not been an isloated incdent, it seems that chatrooms should be called "advertrooms" because thats what people seem to do these days and worse asking for c2c (cam to cam) and they dont ask once, they ask 20 times in a row flooding the room.. again ask them to stop and you get told where to go.
what i blame is that some chatroom have little to no active moderation, like back in the msn/irc days where you could control your own chatroom and even appoint your friends too. so if anyone was being a total prat you kick em out. or ban them.
to my knowlage netequitte is these rules
1. dont shout
2. dont spam
3. dont go offtopic
4. repect others
5. dont write on the walls
and the chatrooms lately break most if not all of the rules.. and it seems no one cares anymore. i think its actually a relfection on todays world.. where no one repects others or the rules
sorry if this does sound moany.. at least this forum is friendly and repects the rules.. maybe lxf should have its own IRC channel.. where the only things about webcams is how to set the things up lol...

I don't know about telling you how to set up your webcam (mine works fine, thanks), but there is an LXF IRC channel:
#linuxformat on irc.freenode.net
I hope Mike doesn't mind me mentioning this. You won't see me there, because it takes me a long time to think up the sort of twaddle I post here. IRC, or indeed any other instant form of text communication, seem to me to embody the worst aspects of speech and writing, so, as I cannot be sure of conveying what I want to say easily, I don't bother.

Linuxformat doesn't have an official IRC channel but there is one so named on freenode.net , don't know how busy it is though

well for the record i got my webcam to work.. i just rarely use it cos i have such an ugly face i dont want to break my computer screen..
how ironic this off topic, has actually gone more off topic, as the topic was the demise of netiquette

Goddammit - as soon as we start veering off topic, out comes 1sf (troll) to veer us off even further!
It's like Boromir's horn - no matter where he is, as soon as the sound of an off-topic forum thread is heard, 1sf (troll) will come racing...
P.S. I don't tend to use IRC much nowadays - twas only at Uni back in the 90's that I needed to use IRC, and even then it was just for experimentation...
P.P.S. Quite often I find that people who use caps are as blind as a bat - they claim that Caps allow them to see the fonts easier... What's even more infuriating is tYPING eVERY fIRST lETTER aS a lOWERCASE lETTER! |
