I have a MD9580-A computer running Windows XP SP2. The computer has a Toshiba SD C-2502 DVD/CD drive, which sadly fell off. I have a Phillips DVD/CD-RW (Philips JR32RWDV USB) drive but my BIOS (PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0; MEDIONNB L8400C series Notebook PC BIOS Version: 0201) does not allow boot from USB. I have been unsuccessful in identifying a BIOS update and so have been looking into mays to use a floppy disk to encourage my computer to boot from the USB DVD-Drive and hence install Mandriva (from the LXF67 coverdisk).
Is this possible, I have read many sites that suggest it is but without detailed instructions on how to actually do it.
Any help would be appreciated.
PS (I have a replacement internal CD/DVD drive on order from EBAY but I'm not sure when it will arrive and when it does how long it will take to get around to installing it so the USB method is my best hope right now.)
