Please correct the headline to Dektop Environment benchmarks.
(Unless, of course, "Dektop" is something British that I just wouldn't understand.)
Otherwise, a nice article.
You can delete this thread when the typo is corrected if you like.

No worries. Just glad to have caught it.
I was actually amazed to see how much memory was used before a desktop was even loaded. A while back, I was going to build a Linux From Scratch system. I wonder if the usage and performance numbers could be changed--to a statistically significant level--by building the system from scratch and with compiler optimizations.
But I have a 3-year-old boy and a 9-week-old girl, so I'm the LAST one with time to test that theory! |

I have no time to go to my office anymore, I use a laptop from upstairs to connect to my machines downstairs just to do some things. I post here from work _________________ I cannot deny anything that I did not say. |

Wow! You win. Two 7-week-olds must be absolutely exhausting!
It's people like you I think about at 3 in the morning while changing the 5 pound diaper when I finding myself cursing the dark and saying, "At least I don't have two." I already go through a full pot of coffee a day. I'm thinking that if we had had twins, I'd have to stoop to the elicit drugs.
More power to ya, donoreo! Good luck with the twins. |

Here is the good news: at 7 weeks they are now sleeping 6 hours a night! Two is hard, harder than just twice the work, more like 2.5 times the work. They are so cute though and I love them very much, even when they are crying to no apparent reason. _________________ I cannot deny anything that I did not say. |

eesh 2 at 7 weeks, you'll get the 'terrible two's' in stereo!
I got 8yr old and 7yr old sons and they are starting to want to use my PC..no way, no one uses it. Guess it's time to build oen for them
The 7 month old boy can wait a few years though! |

But my youngest daughter (now 12) trashed the BIOS on my 486 when she was only 18-months old! That was back when you needed cylinders, sectors and everything else to manually put in the BIOS - there was no auto-detect crap. When she was 5 and her sister was 7 they would delete each others files so they could add different games from an early Pentium - this was how they learnt to install Windows 95/98. I got sick of re-building the PC and just gave them the install CD.
It will be fun later and I wouldn't miss a moment of it. |

The first 25 years of parenthood are the worst- then, if you are really lucky, they leave home.
Then, again-if you are really lucky, they have kids and you can take them away for a day, spoil them rotten, give them all the sweets, icecream and macdonalds they want, and then give them back for a month
Seriously, I have an 8 year old grandson who hates chips, and loves coming to stay with us because he gets to eat olives, artichokes, home made pasta and fresh fish! _________________ The sig between the asterisks is so cool that only REALLY COOL people can even see it!
