I hate to sound like a panicing idiot, but is anything that article said about Vista true? A backdoor for governments, FBI, etc to be able to access your file system? Alerting the RIAA if you download an mp3 illegally?

I read an article on TCPA perhaps a year ago, and it mentioned about things like this. I hate the idea of friends who "absolutely must" use Windows, to end up being the victims of having their pc probed for anything "illegal".

I think the backdoor is true however the mp3 one cant be because how will they know weather it was a legally aquired mp3 although with the drm stuff that may be true.

Although I think the thing about them raiding their Linux meeting and him being banned from using Linux is untrue.

Surely though the best version of Windows wouldn't even boot to begin with saving us all the effort.

No the best version would have an install disk, that when booted from would explain to you all the problems you will encounter, and then point you towards another vendor. It would also make it clear that you are entitled to a refund of your non-volutary contribution Wink

Or it could hack itself and replace the junk code with actual useful code. It would take several hours and involve a curses based installer and would leave a strange quirk where partitions are now named something like hda2 rather than random and useless names like C/D etc.
