Still not recieved issue 179 January & oddities

Postby BluePenguin » Fri Jan 03, 2014 5:44 pm

Like the mag, reading for a while, but issue 179 has some strange stuff

News section, page 8, about Ubuntu: "GNOME 3.8 is kept from the 13.10 release and includes Gnome style apps".

What does this even mean? The whole text reads like it was written by someone who doesn't know what Ubuntu and Gnome are. So Gnome 3.8 isn't included in Ubuntu 13.10, but it also includes programs with a Gnome style? Like all Gnome releases do?

Gaming feature, page 48: "SDL invokes the X library for things such as in-game audio"

Bzzt - X has nothing to do with audio whatsoever

Apologises, yes I should have used graphics or windowing as an example.

Oddities in issues 179 January

I still have not received it.

Odd or wot?

This happens year after year.

Has it even been sent?

Please do not give me apologies - they are cheap. Solutions require more effort.

Yes, it should have arrived some time ago and shouldn't be happening.

Try calling this number - 01604 251045. That's for new subscribers but I assume you can still talk to the right person. The official number (0844 848 2852) costs money, which, in my book, is wrong considering it's a mistake the company has made and need to rectify.

Hope that helps.

Jan 20th and I still have not received either the Christmas issue, nor the later one.

It has been like this in Spain for about 3 years, altho´ the much-missed KatyStar was truly good at sorting out the carriers.

I have been a reader for 12 years, and a sub for about 10 and I still have a little while to run before I will out of steam - and patience.

LXF clearly could not give a monkey´s buncle about it´s subs.

Yes, those were the days, when Katy Star sorted out the problems.
Fortunately my mags have arrived safe and sound a bit further north David, in the Netherlands. My sub is up around now, to renew or not renew, that is the question.
I believe there's a new kid on the block that's called linux voice.

It's an unfortunate fact that magazines need people like Katy to sort out their subscription departments. Of all the magazines I have worked with, subscriptions have been the major complaint from readers of all but one. What was different about the one is that they were a small operation that handled subscriptions in house instead of outsourcing them.

Not only does that result in poorer service, but it also makes it very difficult for individual magazines to do anything about it.

Bless you Nelz, I have complete confidence that you have hit the nail on the head.

Unfortunately I can see no solution but to walk away, shame it had to come to this.

Many thanks for your help and guidance in the past.

Best

Yeah, it's pretty frustrating as it's got nothing to do with the editorial team at all and shouldn't be happening on a regular basis. :x
