I just noticed a significant size variation on the PDF downloads. For example, 174, 176, 177 and 178 weigh in between 11 and 17MB whereas 175 is 180MB. The ones I have downloaded do seem to vary in file size, avaraging around 50MB.

Just wondering why issue 175 is more than ten times bigger than the issues either side of it. Is this a PDF production issue?

The 175 PDF I downloaded in August is 23MB.

Well I have just tried it again. On page "Issue 175 (October 2013) - Next Generation Sysadmin", I right-click on "Click here to download the whole issue as a single PDF" and do "save-as". The resulting file that downloads "LXF175.complete.PDF" is 180511107 bytes and has MD5 0a9526f81deaa455f8678da419cd0aee.

The PDF itself is fine and is 100 pages long.

Yes, once I found my login details, I tried downloading it again and it is BIG.

Is this something that can be looked in to? It seems mad to be wasting disk space by such an unnecessary margin.

Thanks John, and that was the issue that had a tutorial on compression...

We'll keep an eye on that for future issues. The full issue PDF is supplied via another department that deals with flightchecking etc for the printers. I'll see what they say.
