Nepomuk

Postby catgate » Sun May 05, 2013 5:46 pm

I have just noticed a thing called Nepomuk lurking, nay cowering, in my Systems Tools drop down menu. There is a Nepomuk Backup and a Nepomuk File Indexing Controller.
How long it has lurked, or even cowered, I know not. Neither do I know what it is. I can not find it in Synaptic Packager Manager and so I suppose it is Non Standard issue in some form or other.
Is it a friendly beast or is it likely to bite?
Oh, sod it.

Nepomuk is he file indexing backend for KDE. You can turn it off in SystemSettings if you don't need it.

Thank you once again for coming to my aid, sir.
It looks to me as though it may well be just a tad too "advanced" for my simple needs.
I have had a look in SystemSettings but it seems as though none of the items in there lead to it.
Oh, sod it.

Look for Semantic Desktop, I'm working from memory here as I have KDE compiled without semantic desktop support, so I no longer have the options.

It is just Search Desktop now (in KDE 4.10).

This is all very confusing. My underestanding of what you both say leads me to think that this Nepomuc is strictly a KDE linked entity.
A search through Synaptic Package Manager shows that I have the following onboard:-

kde-runtime
kde-runtime-data
kdelibs-bin
kdlibs5-data
kdlibs5-plugins
kdepim-runtime
kdepimlibs-kio-plugins

A perusal of the Ubuntu Software Centre, with “kde” in the search box, shows the following with a green tick:-

KnetAttach
Nepomuc File Indexing Controller
Software Sources
AcondityAconaditray
Account Wizard
Apper
Apper Updates
Apper Settings
Apper Installer
Network

Does this mean that all these files are there to support the new whistles and bells of Ubuntu 12.0? and are now laying doggo due to my running “classic” mode?
Oh, sod it.

Nepomuk is part of KDE, if you have it installed it would be as a dependency of some KDE apps you have installed.

Ah! Well! Now there you have me, Nelz.
To be honest I do not think I would recognise a KDE app if it hit me in the face.
Oh, sod it.
