Well guys, my Acer netbook crunched its SSD recently and dunno what to do.
1) strip down and replace the SSD, (as if I don't have enough of stripping)... ;o)
2) Not bother about it and boot from say a USB stick.
3) Abandon the netbook completely as it is so far out of date now as to bother with it.
I'll throw it open to you lot to see what you would do...
BTW, I didn't back it up either, but before you all go into a lather I only used it as a test bed... ;o)
TIA... _________________ 73...

The SSD may well be surface mounted, so that's a nice project for you
I consider netbooks disposable, if you get a few years out of it, great, but a new one is not a bad option. Modern netbooks are a lot better than the early models. _________________ "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." (Albert Einstein) |

If I was you, I'd sleep on it _________________

Sleeping on it may not be very comfortable, and you'll probably keep falling off.
If it is the same as my AA1, the SSD is a mini-IDE one, they are about £20 on eBay.
If you want, I can send you details on how to strip it down.
I upgraded mine to 1.5Gb of Ram, a faster 16Gb SSD, and 802.11n wifi. Then I sold an article with pictures, on how to do it, which more than paid for the hardware
Mind you, it may just be that the ribbon cable needs reseating. _________________ The sig between the asterisks is so cool that only REALLY COOL people can even see it!

Mine went exactly the same way, just undid the ribbon cable and re-clipped it, booted up fine. | Quote: |
