It depends on what you want to do. If you install a SIP client, like Telepathy, then Google for SIP providers. There are tones of them , with varying rates. Which one is best for you depends on where you want to call.

Personally, I just stick with www.sipgate.co.uk

The biggest problem is simply that just about every other user only knows of, and therefore uses Skype.
You will therefore need some evangelism regarding VOIP applications before you can sensibly use an alternative to speak to anyone else.

Skype-to-Skype calls are free, so in asking for a lower cost alternative it would appear that Narenda want to use it to call POTS phones.

Since MIcrosoft have taken over Skype the costs of sending SMS and calling within the Uk have gone up.

So I am looking for its alternative. Even the Sipgate is expensive.

The best price alternative for UK calls and texts is probably a mobile phone. SIP is good for calling other SIP users or abroad, but for calls to UK numbers, especially mobiles, a bundled mobile deal is usually cheapest.
