My daughter keeps forgetting to update her Mint 11 setup on her netbook. Is there an option to get it to auto update? I think there is with the later versions of Mint, but not sure about Mint 11.

It should update, or rather, notify you of updates automatically, just like all other distros. If ot is not doing so go to the update-manager and change the settings to make sure it checks daily. _________________ Ubuntu 10.04 user, and loving it! |

It does notify, but my daughter is only 8 and tends to forget. Then I have to chase her to make sure they're done. I was hoping for a nice "automatically download and install" button. _________________ AMD PHENOM II X6, 14 GB DDR3, 500 GB hd, 1GB nVidia card, running Linux Mint 14 KDE / Win 7. Set up a cron job (or anacron, as she's probably not online 24/7 ) to have it done automagically Have it send an email to your desktop, so you'd keep track if it fails (and you can tell her to do it herself). Cron (and derivatives) works in the background, so you'd not want to have user input during updating: it'll wait forever... To learn about cron, study crontab, the tool to make cron jobs. |

Surprised that nelz didn't say to to get a box of cron flakes to keep the updates regular.
Enjoy the Choice |

You could also set up SSH access for yourself so that you can keep an eye on things remotely. _________________ Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who it's friends are. |
