When I set up my Ubuntu Linux PC, I created a user account for my wife and myself. Somehow, my wife's account was created with a password enabled but neither of us knows what the password is and my wife would prefer not to have a password on her account. Is there a way to open up this account or do I need to delete her account and create a new one?

Thanks,

Login with your account. If you are using the classic desktop / gnome2 then.

goto System > Administration > Users and Groups

Select your wifes account, click Change to the right of Password: Ask on login a password maybe asked for, use your own. Then put a tick in the box Do not ask for a password on login.

Then make sure she does not have any admin rights in the advanced section.

You can also reset the password, whatever it may have been, with a new and hopefully memorable one by following http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword
