Recently, a change happened to my laptop so that when I close the screen and subsequently open it to continue work, the screen remains blacked out. I have tried several things like the function keys, CTRL-ALT-DEL, etc. to get the display to return, but to no avail. So far, the only thing that works is to hard cycle the power button which seems like a bad idea.
Any one have any experience with this type of behavior with their laptop? _________________ Mandelbrot

Maybe you should provide some more info about which distro (and version) you're using, your laptop model, and perhaps the graphics chipset too. For the latter, have a look at the output of

I should have done that already. I am definitely not the PC savy person - I'm just starting to try to learn and just installed Linux from the LXF learners disk last month.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 with a Gnome Shell. The PC is a Sony Vaio PCG-8112L with VESA: G86 Board - e415h01. _________________ Mandelbrot
