If I install an earlier Ubuntu OS from DVD (LXF mag DVD) can it be updated from the Ubuntu distro to the latest 11.10 or 12.04 when it is available?

In theory you can update from 10.04 to 12.04, both of those being Long Term Support (LTS) versions. In practice, several people have had big problems doing that as the underlying system has moved from gtk2 and gnome-2 to gtk3 and gnome-3.
If you start with version 10.10 or 11.04 you can only go one jump at a time, eg 10.10 to 11.04, or 11.04 to 11.10, and you can't go straight from 10.10 to 11.10.
It may be worth a try, but frankly, I think I would wait and download the new 12.04 .iso final version with a torrent, and do a clean installation. _________________ Xubuntu 12.04 user, and loving it! |

The LXF Ubuntu remix from issue 155 would be my recommendation and leave 12.04 for at least a month after its release _________________ still looking for that door into summer |
