Bird asked me to upgrade, so I followed the link and now have a 17Mb file sitting in my Downloads file.
I have no idea where to put the file, nor how to install it.
Help, please!

You should normally update it using your distro's repositories, not using the TB update feature.
In my Ubuntu 10.04 running TB 10 after today's update from TB 9 (I have the stable firefox and TB ppa repos enabled) Ido not even have the option to update the whole application in the TB Preferences dialog. Only the add-ons can be updated that way.
