My wife needs a new laptop. Being a woman, her only criteria is that it's pink.
Problem is that I think that hp and dell are the only ones making pink laptops. I'd rather not get one of those due to the shifts they're making to software. It makes me nervous for their hardware lines...
Ok, so I need a little help here. The spec I need is that it needs to be below £400 and she doesn't want a smaller screen, so it needs to be above 17".
Any recommends? _________________ AMD PHENOM II X6, 14 GB DDR3, 500 GB hd, 1GB nVidia card, running Linux Mint 14 KDE / Win 7. Damn thing keeps breaking.
eeepc 1015PX, 1.66 Ghz Intel atom processor, 2 GB DDR3, 320 GB hd running Mint 14 MATE. Running great. |

We managed to get one of these ex-display (there were none available within 30 miles or for delivery that weren't ex display):
http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Laptops/buy-ASUS-X53E-SX393V-PNK-Laptop/733725
Paid £299.99.
And the real bonus? I get her old one to experiment with Arch for a while before we ebay it. _________________ AMD PHENOM II X6, 14 GB DDR3, 500 GB hd, 1GB nVidia card, running Linux Mint 14 KDE / Win 7. Damn thing keeps breaking.

I quite like Asus. I have an eeepc and my old eeepc went my daughter when she turned 8. _________________ AMD PHENOM II X6, 14 GB DDR3, 500 GB hd, 1GB nVidia card, running Linux Mint 14 KDE / Win 7. Damn thing keeps breaking.

Yeah, because I find I really can't get anything done without reading my BIOS source code. If only my BIOS was open -- then I'd have the freedom to program, browse the web, watch videos, listen to music, play games, talk to friends, and have an awesome time.
Oh wait, I already have those freedoms. Because my definition of "freedom" is much more sensible than yours

Mike, I'd already figured you didn't respect user freedom, as I've noticed your articles in "Linux Format" -- or what I've recently taken to calling "GNU/Linux Format" -- are released under a non-free font. _________________ Linux since Ubuntu 6.06. |

Reasonable trolling effort -- I'd give it 6/10 as I took you slightly seriously in the first post. But the second post let it down I'm afraid!

It's worse than that, the non-free fonts are printed on non-free paper using non-free ink.
On the other hand, all my contributions are sent in using free electrons. _________________ "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." (Albert Einstein) |

I don't mind paying for my non-free mag. If it's real freedom you want, please talk to this picture of my hand free of charge:

What sort of free electrons?
Free as in liberated, or free as in cost? I suppose you didn't pay to create them, but someone paid for them to be moved around and to be liberated in the first place _________________ For certain you have to be lost to find the places that can't be found. Free as in liberated. They wander around as they please, which is why my copy sometimes arrives late. _________________ "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." (Albert Einstein) |
