Described in the Guinness Book of World Record's as the oldest light bulb in the world, this bulb just celebrated its 110th birthday on June 18,2011. The Livermore, Ca. Station 6 firehouse is home to this record
setting light bulb.
The 60 watt light bulb that just won't quit was installed in 1901 and has burned continuously, except for a few blackouts and some outlet moves, at it's home home in the Livermore Ca., fire station. It's used as a nightlight over the firetrucks and is never turned off. |

Even when it fails, it will still have been the world's oldest functioning lightbulb. Until another outlasts it. I'll not be waiting with bated breath for that one though. _________________ Bye, Rhakios |

Might possibly be that it's run at a mere 6.7% of rated power has something to do with it. I wouldn't be madly impressed by a bulb lasting 11 yrs at 67% rated power or even 7.3 yrs at 100%.
Overclocking to say 70W might have a slightly different effect on its lifespan. If its webcam is online, maybe its PSU is too.... _________________ Cheers,

It is run on reduced voltage about 50 % IIRC heard a few interviews with the firehall lads over the years.
Enjoy the Choice |

Well, the linked article said it was run at 4W. 50% of rated power would be 30W - or, at 50% rated voltage and ignoring change of resistance with temperature, that would be 15W. _________________ Cheers,

I loved the use of the verb 'overclocking' in the context of a lightbulb _________________ I codes here: http://notsure.tk |
