Hippie! Was always hoping that they release it for Linux as well. Google Earth is just great...

I'm already running this on Dapper. It works well enough but don't make the mistake I made in installing using sudo. It works by installing for one user in the home directory in the same style as wine. I've had to create a gksudo launcher to run it (imagine, an administrator password for Google Earth).

Sorry I said it a bit wrong.

I meant they are sending it out without a big sticker saying "WINDOWS XP ONLY"

This isn't open source. It is a binary that only runs on x86-based Linux platforms.

This is great because a big company like Google is taking advantage of Open Source and hopefully will push others too

Who reckons google are going to release their own distro then?

I like the way they say: "Download Google Earth - Mac or PC or Linux". Does Linux not run on a Mac or a PC, then? Oh well, time to dig my SPARC out, I suppose!
